The Warrenton Police Department serves as the primary law enforcement agency for the City of Warrenton. The department is responsible for preventing and detecting crime, enforcing local and state laws, and protecting people and property within the city limits.

In Warrenton, the duties of the Police Department are defined by the City Charter and Code of Ordinances. The Department:
  • Provides continuous police presence to deter and respond to crime.
  • Conducts community relations and crime prevention programs as directed by the Mayor and Council.
  • Oversees city offenders housed in the county jail.
  • Maintains detailed daily records of arrests, investigations, incidents, and public safety responses.
  • Issues administrative rules and orders through the Chief of Police to guide department operations.
  • Ensures officers meet professional standards of conduct, training, and readiness.
  • Manages the care, storage, and lawful return or disposal of lost, stolen, or impounded property.
